Town of Mountain View Election Information

Election time is almost here in the Town of Mountain View.

The Town  holds elections every two (odd numbered) years. This year's election is on November 2, 2021.

If you have been a resident of the Town of Mountain View for at least one year immediately preceding the election, are a U.S. citizen, and a qualified elector over 18 years of age, you are eligible to run. (Mayoral candidates need to have been a citizen for at least five years.)

Among other things, the Town Council debates and sets budgetary, zoning, development, infrastructure and public safety policy. Council also plans community and civic events.

There are four open seats in this election, including three councilmember seats and the mayor's position.  All four are for four-year terms which expire in November 2025. The time commitment for councilmember seats can range from 10 to 20 hours per month.

The mayoral position is a full-time administrative job. The mayor serves as the Town manager, as well as running meetings and performing ceremonial duties.

All four of these positions offer a monthly stipend set by ordinance.

The 2021 Candidate Manual and Nominating Petition Packet-which contain information and forms necessary to run for these positions-are now available with the Town Clerk.

The Nominating Petition Packet must be circulated for signatures between August 3rd and August 23rd, 2021. To be valid, it must be turned into the Town clerk's office no later than 5 p.m. on August 23rd, 2021.
